Ingredients

  • 2 cups heavy cream

  • ¾ cup granulated sugar

  • a pinch of salt

  • 1 cup whole milk

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 cup maraschino cherries, quartered

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chunks


Preparation

  1. Pour 1 cup of the heavy cream into a small saucepan and add in the sugar and salt. Heat over medium heat until sugar is dissolved, about 1 minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and pour mixture into a medium bowl. Add the remaining 1 cup of heavy cream, whole milk, and vanilla.

  2. Place ice cream mixture in the refrigerator to chill. While it is chilling, prepare the quartered maraschino cherries and chocolate chunks.

  3. Freeze the ice cream mixture according to the ice cream maker’s instructions. When removing the ice cream from the machine, fold in the maraschino cherry pieces and chocolate chunks.

  4. Store in the freezer and allow to chill to reach hard serve consistency.
